Happy New Year from Therapeutic Health Collective in Santa Cruz! 2019 was a huge year for cannabis. From delicious new strains, to the creation of new state cannabis legislation. It’s time to take a look at where cannabis is headed in 2020, both in California and around the country.
More Legalization in More States
As the known benefits of cannabis become more and more mainstream, states continue to adopt legalization. In 2020, there will be nearly a dozen states across the country with adult-use marijuana on the ballot including Florida, New York and Virginia. While many of the states aiming for legalization failed in 2019, they are trying again in the new year.
Legislation Changes in California
On January 1st alone, there are three new law changes set to take effect in CA. Licensed cannabis dispensaries will now be able to donate medical cannabis to patients in need of financial assistance. Cannabis use will now be illegal in commercial vehicles, such as buses and limousines.
Additionally, cannabis operators will be able to deduct business expenses which they were previously unable to do because of federal law. For business owners, tax hikes will also take effect on the 1st of the New Year.
